But the hope within the story really helped, especially at times when cody seemed to be going out of. So it was with gayle forman’s novels. I was here by gayle forman.
It’s raw and yes, very sad but also very relatable and at times i find myself laughing at the main character’s sarcasm. I would also say this is a thought provoking novel, in that it asks the big questions. Instead, it’s a story of friendship, loss, guilt, grief, and learning to move on.
I was here, by gayle forman. I too have been kind of put off by gayle forman and all of the hype, but this seems like a book i will definitely give a try! I had the chance to meet her and listen to her talk about her books for about an hour and she herself is a.
I was here is gayle forman at her finest, a taut, emotional, and ultimately redemptive story about redefining the meaning of family and finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss. It explores suicide and all of the emotional effects that blossom out from that one decision. February 2, 2015 at 1:17 pm.
I was here is gayle forman at her finest, a taut, emotional, and ultimately redemptive story about redefining the meaning of family and finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss. Until she does, and suddenly everything cody thought she knew about her best friend's death gets thrown into question. That is a valid and very painful human experience.
It’s a very powerful book, something that combines the very best qualities of if i stay and where she went. The book explores how it's impossible to know everything about another person, especially if they are good about hiding depression or suicidal thoughts. When i was done, with the book it felt like my friends had gone home after a day of hanging out.

The “just one day” duet novels were easily some of my favorite reads of. This book was quite a rollercoaster ride. Known by her novel duets like, “if i stay” and “where she went,” and “just one day” and “just one year,” gayle forman is a master of bitter and sweet.
I couldn’t write a normal review for this book, because i couldn’t separate it from my feelings. I didn’t think i was going to cry and them bam, the ending killed me a little. As the novel starts we discover that meg garcia, cody’s best friend, has committed suicide.
I was here by gayle forman is a complicated book. It’s not hard to empathize with a girl. While i've appreciated forman's attention to grief and the emotional journeys her flawed characters have initial reaction:
It was almost as if something was missing. This book surprised me with how much i liked it! I was here is a novel unlike any other.
This was a very realistic, while flawed look into one. You know that feeling, when you just finish a book and it all hits you at once, the whole story you read washes over you, and you’re sitting there in that stunned silence. Cody and meg were best friends for the.

So i wrote a letter to gayle. Gayle forman's i was here took me by surprise with how much it resonated with me. While i was here tackles a heavy topic, i wouldn’t categorize it as an issue book.
(out of 5) when i heard about this book back in january, i was excited. It’s also one that should be completely plastered with trigger warnings for suicide,. I really enjoy gayle forman’s writing.
I was here by gayle forman. I felt like was on the trip along with ben and cody. I’m not really a contemporary person, but i am very much a gayle forman person.
So a huge part of i was here simply dealt with cody's identity not only in relation to meg, but in relation to her family and hometown.i enjoyed those parts, particularly because i thought forman did an excellent job of tackling an interesting family dynamic. I sincerely believe there is a place in the world for stories where the protagonist loses someone to suicide and has to work through their grief. Books like i was here ruin those stories for everyone.
